Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Taking on the role of caregiver is not an easy task but given the right tools, you can manage the day-to-day challenges with an increased positive outlook. Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a research-based program that shows a caregiver how to take care of themselves while caring for a loved one. The program does not require someone to have a specific diagnosis so anyone that is a caregiver is encouraged to attend.

The free six-week program will help you set goals, communicate your feelings in a positive way, assist in realizing the benefits of asking for help, and feel relief in the company of others with similar stories. At the end of each session, the participants are given opportunities to design action plans to promote self-care and self-confidence.

Savvy Caregiver

Providing care for a family member with Alzheimer’s or related dementia can be a challenging task for those without the necessary skills and knowledge. However, at St. John’s Community Care, we recognize the importance of providing caregivers with the necessary tools to support their loved ones.

To achieve this, we offer the Savvy Caregiver Program, a free six-session training program specifically designed for family and friends who actively care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s or related dementia. Our trainers utilize interactive classes developed by the University of Minnesota, teaching caregivers the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to handle the challenges of dementia caregiving.

The Savvy Caregiver Program helps caregivers learn techniques and coping skills to manage daily living situations, understand the impact of dementia on both the caregiver and their loved one, communicate more effectively, and strengthen family resources. Ultimately, this program improves the caregivers’ knowledge and understanding, reducing stress and increasing their competence in dementia caregiving.

Stress Busting for Caregivers

Stress can be a major issue for family caregivers who are caring for loved ones with dementia. Here at St. John’s Community Care, we understand the challenges that caregiver face and are committed to providing support and education to help them. That’s why we offer the Stress-Busting Program for Family Caregivers.

The Stress-Busting Program is a series of educational sessions designed to help the family caregiver better understand the stress they are experiencing in this role. Caregivers attending will 1) learn about  stress and how it affects them, 2) review a variety of stress management techniques, and 3) develop problem-solving skills. This is an evidence-based program, and many have found it to be helpful to their well-being and being a less stressed family caregiver.
