Savvy Caregiver Program for Alzheimer's and Dementia Caregivers

How the Savvy Caregiver Program Helps You Provide Better Care for Loved Ones with Dementia

Providing care for a family member with Alzheimer’s or related dementia can be a challenging task for those without the necessary skills and knowledge. However, at St. John’s Community Care, we recognize the importance of providing caregivers with the necessary tools to support their loved ones.

To achieve this, we offer the Savvy Caregiver Program, a free six-session training program specifically designed for family and friends who actively care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s or related dementia. Our trainers utilize interactive classes developed by the University of Minnesota, teaching caregivers the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to handle the challenges of dementia caregiving.

The Savvy Caregiver Program helps caregivers learn techniques and coping skills to manage daily living situations, understand the impact of dementia on both the caregiver and their loved one, communicate more effectively, and strengthen family resources. Ultimately, this program improves the caregivers’ knowledge and understanding, reducing stress and increasing their competence in dementia caregiving.

To register for the program, which consists of six two-hour classes at no charge, interested individuals can fill out the form on our website or call 618-344-5008. However, registration is required.

At St. John’s Community Care, we remain dedicated to helping caregivers provide the best possible care for their loved ones. As such, we offer resources specific to the Metro East area and are located in Collinsville, Illinois.
