In 2011 my husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. It was determined that he could stay at home but needed to attend a day program to keep his mind active. St. John’s was there to help me again. He enjoys the activities and seeing all the friends he has made since joining the group. In addition to the care services, they also provided me with additional resources that give me more balance and hope. I cannot say enough great things about St. John’s Community Care and all their services. It is like being part of a caring and loving family.

When mom started having a few issues, I started checking out options. I really felt like a parent trying to find a trustworthy babysitter for a child. You don’t just hand off your child to anyone… because they cannot report.
I am really fussy. I just want to know she is taken care of the way I would take care of her. Making sure she is safe, loved and treated with dignity. I found that kind of care with St. John’s Adult Day program. I can continue to work and take care of my personal needs while mom attends the program.
I appreciate all the thought that goes into the program. They have entertainment, games, exercise, arts & crafts, and lots of social stimulation. All of these therapies are created to be fun experiences that are valuable to keeping her engaged and certainly add quality to her life. I love knowing she is “part of the family” at St. John’s.
It makes my heart happy to know her time left here on earth can be meaningful and loving. I could go on and on!
When you deeply love your parents, you want the best for them. I am so blessed to have a place like St. John’s so I can relax.

My niece and I were so touched that day as you toured us through your center. We could see how warm and caring each one of the staff were and how they were caring for each one of the participants that day. I journaled during this journey and I look back are smile as I re-read all the "fun things" Gene and got to do and participate in. I am grateful he was cared for patiently, lovingly and in a fun and humorously way. My family will never forget you who serve there. Thank you for your friendship. Love Blanche

St. John’s is a wonderful place.
My husband gets a full day of activity, both mental and physical, has fun, socializes, and enjoys helping others when he can. I, in turn, can get a few things done and relax a little. It’s so good for both of us. Being his caregiver 24/7 is truly exhausting. I am delighted St. John’s was able to reopen. During the months Jeff spent at home, he was less active and developed some mobility issues. I think that by returning to St. John’s and getting some therapy, he will get back to where he was.

In February 2021, I started taking the Savvy Caregiver’s class. I began to learn more about my dad’s diagnosis as well as the progression of the disease. We touched on important coping skills for caregivers involving daily living with a loved one with dementia. For me, the benefit of receiving the class materials for free was a blessing. It was also a wonderful benefit of receiving engaging with other caregivers and asking the staff ALL of my questions as we went through the handbook. I was directed to other community resources that, otherwise, I would have never known about.
I am currently enrolled in the Stress Busting for Caregivers class through St. John’s Community Care. Although we are only beginning Chapter 3, I an already notice a reduction in my stress level! The first class was about breathing, which everyone should know how to do, right? But the stressful caregiving situations, I tend to tense up, breathing shallower, and not relaxing in the exhale. I am learning new skills that I can practice each day throughout the week. I am also able to email the facilitators any questions I have during the week, and they are prompt to get back to me. We have a lovely group of students, and I think we all have adequate time to ask questions and offer each other support.
Emotionally, caregiving is HARD WORK. I would not be able to do this without my deep faith in the Lord and St. John’s Community Care classes and resources.
