Stacey’s Grapevine Fall 2012

The crisp air tells us autumn is here. Fall activities are gearing up and making each of us busy, busy, busy! At the adult day program, we are also gearing up with activities and events for fall.
To start off, we celebrated National Adult Day Services Week, September 16-22. St. John’s celebrated by showing our appreciation to three agencies that assist us to provide successful adult day services. I personally delivered a basketful of treats and gifts to the Collinsville Shuttle, Collinsville Fire Department, and Madison County ACT/Para Transit Department. We wanted to express our thanks to the dedicated staffs for the excellent service they provide each day as the Shuttle and ACT vans transport our participants. Karen Szegedy at the Collinsville Shuttle shared with me that the drivers come to know our participants well. Karen commented that on the first day of transporting a new participant to our program, they seems very nervous. The second day the participant is less anxious. But on the third day as they pick up the participant, Karen smiled and told me that the participant is looking forward to attending St. John’s. The collaboration we have with both transportation services allows St. John’s to provide coordinated support for the families that need a break from caregiving.
The Collinsville Fire Department and EMT’s play a different role that is vital to our program, families and participants. We call for their assistance when a participant has fallen become ill suddenly and we need their expertise. When they are called for emergencies, they exhibit the utmost professionalism, empathy, and courtesy as they assist our participants. This is a true comfort for our families and staff.
November will be here before we know it. Mark your calendars for the following dates:
The first event is our 6th Annual Family Caregiver Night on Wednesday, November 14th. Our program is thrilled to have two student interns from the SIUE Social Work Department, Lacey Clemens and Jennifer Atnip. Lacey and Jennifer will be planning our Family Caregiver Night. Please join us for an evening dedicated to you, the caregiver. We will have dinner, educational information and methods to reduce your stress. Complimentary adult day services will be available for this event.
Another annual November family event will be our Pie Social. We like to get a head start on eating the yummy pies that are made by our staff. The staff enjoys getting to know our families. Please join us on Wednesday, November 21st. Detailed information will be mailed to each family.
The Adult Day Program will be closed for Thanksgiving that Friday. The staff wishes you a blessed holiday as we all give thanks for the daily blessings God gives us that we sometimes overlook due to the busyness of our lives!
